Green River Community College
2016
Peggy Dixon Two-Year Scholarship
This fall I will begin my studies at Central Washington University where I will be majoring in Mathematics Education and minoring in Spanish. This past spring I completed my Associates in Arts and my high school diploma at Green River College where I participated in the Running Start program Washington State offers. This past year was the first time I was exposed to Physics and I loved it! I chose to complete the full general physics series even though it wasn't all required for my degree. My physics teacher told me about the Society of Physics Students and was the one who got me started in my school's chapter. What I loved most was that what I learned in physics could serve as examples of different mathematical topics for me to use when I become a math teacher. At Green River I served as the secretary of the Alpha Chi Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society (PTK). In both SPS and PTK I gave back to my community through different volunteer activities; whether it be teaching elementary students physics concepts, packaging food at Northwest Harvest, or serving at my church. Upon completion of my degree at Central Washington University I will immediately get my Masters before I start teaching. Ultimately I would like to become National Board certified as well. I can also envision myself teaching mathematics in a Spanish speaking country, making good use out of my Spanish minor.
