“There is a tide in the affairs of men. Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat…” The key to success lies in recognizing and seizing the opportunity.

This week I felt like a little goblin hiding from the light of day.

Kaden Gammon

I know that I did a LOT this past week and made some great memories, but I honestly can’t even remember everything I did. I’m going to do my best to recall everything, but I’m pretty certain I’ve forgotten some highlights of the week.

The end of week 5 marked the halfway point of our internships, which is absolutely wild. These past five weeks have been so excitingly busy, I almost haven’t noticed the time slipping by!

To begin the week, I worked from home (which brought very little progress on my code), and took a brief virtual meeting for my other job at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum here in DC.

I can’t believe that we’re more than halfway done with the internship! Time really does fly by when you’re having fun. This past week was super busy, so I’ll break my week down more systematically instead of my usual ramblings.

Welcome to week five! I’ve talked about how dragonfly’s flight muscles, how they beat their wings and how they produce their incredible colours. Is that enough talking about dragonflies? Never.

It has come to my realization that Jenna and I spend about 12 consecutive hours together. From commuting to work to after-work hangouts, I do not think I go for more than 30 minutes without seeing her daily.

Piper Malczewski

In the last week, I’ve gotten to do some of my favorite things: teach, make art, exercise political advocacy, practice good science communication, learn, and research a topic I’m passionate about!

Evan Erickson

My time in this internship may be cut short because I seem to have broken the cardinal rule of Washington, DC: showing my knees on a weekday commute. My clothing is very practical. If it is cold, I wear long-sleeved clothes. If it is hot, I wear shorts.
