Rhodes College
2021
Jocelynn Bell Burnell Outstanding Leadership Scholarship
As a rising senior at Rhodes College studying Physics with a minor in Mathematics and Pre-Mechanical Engineering Certification, I have combined a liberal arts education with technical preparation for a career in research. I am currently the student leader on RHOK-SAT, a type of small-satellite called a CubeSat, which is in the midst of being produced by Rhodes College and University of Oklahoma. Recently, RHOK-SAT was chosen as one of thirteen satellites to be selected by NASA's CubeSat Launch Initiative. With this support from NASA, our satellite plans to launch in June of 2023. I plan to continue work in the aerospace field by pursuing a doctorate in aerospace engineering, with a focus on electric and plasma propulsion. In addition to technical science, I am the president of Rhodes College SPS and work as a volunteer at Refugee Empowerment Program. My volunteer work with Refugee Empowerment Program has shown me the importance of extending my time and knowledge to as many people as possible by fostering community and championing growth. I plan to continue work to increase the accessibility of education and STEM subjects to underprivileged and underrepresented groups.
