Randolph-Macon College

Jocelynn Bell Burnell Outstanding Leadership Scholarship
I am a junior at Randolph Macon College pursuing a physics and Latin major and a mathematics and computer science minor. Through SPS, I’ve attended research talks given by professor and fellow students and visited Jefferson Lab, PhysicsFest at William and Mary, and Chesapeake Section of the AAPT conferences and I’ve helped put on fun demonstrations for other physics students and for the student body at large. Outside of physics, I’ve participated in Randolph-Macon Habitat for Humanity for three years and the Commons Activities Board for the past two years. I’ve been a Randolph-Macon College Higgins Academic Center tutor for finite mathematics since January 2018 and a tutor for physics since Fall 2018. Regarding post-college plans, I definitely plan to pursue a graduate degree in a pure or applied science and am currently planning towards pursuing an MD/PhD and a career as a physician-scientist. I enjoy exploring all aspects of physics while also making connections to other disciplines such as biology, chemistry, and planetary sciences, and even history and classics.
