SPS Outstanding Chapter Advisor

Alina Gearba-Sell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), where she is also the SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma chapter advisor. She was elected President of the national organization of the Society of Physics Students in 2017. Dr. Gearba-Sell earned her B.S. in Electro-physics, an M.S. in both Electrical Engineering and Electronics, and her Ph.D. in Physics Magna cum Laude at the University of Bucharest, Romania. She furthered her knowledge in physics at Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen, Denmark, and in the United States at Colorado State University and Kansas State University. Dr. Gearba-Sell has been an active contributor to her research field, with many presentations, publications and grants. She has been recognized for her dedication with many awards, including the Frank J. Seiler Award for Research Excellence in the Basic Sciences and Civilian of the Year from the U.S. Air Force Academy, the Mentoring Award and Student Organization Advisor of the Year from the University of Southern Mississippi.
