Vincent Thompson

Biography

I am a double major in physics and mathematics at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). My path to academia is wildly unconventional but I'll spare the gory details. I started at the Westmoreland County Community College (WCCC) in the fall of 2016 as a physics major in a transfer program. I spent one year at WCCC and was accepted as a physics major at IUP the following summer where my work ethic and persistence continued to aid me in an effort to understand our physical reality. I have excelled in my coursework and have been active in my department. I am the Vice President of the IUP chapter of SPS and will continue in this role for the upcoming Fall semester. Over the summer I will begin doing research on the time-temperature dependence of electrical properties for thin-films in order to develop a Time-Temperature indicator for RFID labels on perishable foods as well as investigating spin glass dynamics in CuMn thin-films. I plan to continue working hard as an undergraduate student and SPS member to provide scientific outreach to my community. Following the completion of my undergraduate program, I hope to pursue a Ph.D. in theoretical high energy physics.
