Lesley currently studies climate diagnostics and variability on seasonal to centennial time scales, ENSO impacts, attribution of weather and climate-related extremes, chemistry climate interactions and climate modeling.
Dr. Lesley L. Smith is a physicist in the University of Colorado's Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences.She has had a variety of scientific jobs including investigating quarks, dark matter, extrasolar planets, clouds, atmospheric chemistry and global warming. She has worked for a variety of research institutions including The University of Kansas, Argonne National Laboratory, the Department of Energy, the National Center for Atmospheric Research, NASA, and The University of Colorado.
Lesley's nonfiction articles have been published in several venues including Journal of Climate, Climate Dynamics, Journal of the Meteorological Society of Japan, Journal of Hydrometerology, Journal of Geophysical Research-Atmospheres, Astrophysical Journal, Physical Review, and Modern Physics Letters. She is a long-time member of the The American Physical Society(APS) and The American Geophysical Union (AGU).
It's wonderful discovering new things about our world and our universe.
Frustrations:
Funding can be frustrating. Science doesn't get the financial support it needs.
Challenges:
I'm constantly learning new techniques and methods.
