Identification of Paint Samples using Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy
The SPS chapter at Tuskegee University will explore the feasibility of using laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to identify different commercial brands of identically colored paint based on differences in trace element concentrations and spectra. In addition, the chapter will explore how the composition of paint is affected by exposure to solutions of varying pH levels. The underlying goal is to study the effectiveness of the LIBS method in the forensic analysis of paint.
