Council action
The governing council of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) and of Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics honor society, has approved the following statements for general dissemination.
SPS Statement on Diversity
The Society of Physics Students recognizes that there is a vast untapped intellectual resource in all groups underrepresented in physics. For this reason, the Society of Physics Students is committed to making physics more accessible to everyone. We are committed to providing programs, resources and opportunities that encourage greater participation in the community of physics from members of all groups.
SPS Statement on Inclusivity
The Society of Physics Students (SPS) has, since its inception, been open to anyone interested in physics and recognizes that lasting engagement in the community of physics from members of all groups is vital to the sustainability of physics as a discipline. Therefore, all SPS chapters and their members should strive to make all gatherings and events, whether formal or informal, local, regional, or national, welcoming to anyone interested in physics. The Society of Physics Students is committed to providing resources that promote and support the development of inclusive physics communities where members of all groups feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to be themselves.
