Kevin Fernando is currently a senior Physics and Mathematics major at the University of Central Florida. He’s a dual citizen of the United States and Switzerland. In high school he was on the soccer and weightlifting teams, and he enjoys remaining active today.
Kevin has served as the Vice President and President of his local SPS chapter for the last two years. In this time, he’s worked to revamp his chapters communication systems which included developing a google play App to help students study for the GRE and communicate with chapter officers. Kevin also has been pushing many of his chapter’s members to be more involved in the national organization which has led them to win one of the SPS Research awards, as well as a SPS Project award. This past year his local SPS chapter also held an event called a Raspberry jam which hosted undergraduates, graduates, and faculty from 5 different Florida universities to celebrate Raspberry Pi’s and their applications in the physical sciences. Outside of SPS, Kevin has been conducting research at his home institution with a faculty member studying non-local heat transport using Green-Kubo methods.
