Genesis Suárez-González is currently a senior Physics and English major at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez and aspiring Medical Physicist. Since she was little, Genesis always liked being involved in different extracurricular activities such as engineering clubs, volleyball, dance team, modeling and music school. Last year, she performed as Marie Curie in “The Physics Show” and she will be part of the cast of part two of this show.
Genesis has served as President and Secretary of her local SPS Chapter. While she held each positions, Mrs. Suárez created a charity committee and a program to teach physics to high school students with few resources. For her, it is important to grow professionally but also to give back to our community and recruit more students for the physics field. This year, her chapter won the Future Faces of Physics Award, which helped reach the goal of promoting physics across cultures. Génesis has been pushing many of her members to be more involved in the national organization so they can meet more people outside of Puerto Rico with similar interests in Physics. One of the events that helped was Physcon.
Usually, we are unable to participate in many national activities, but we managed to motivate 20 members of our chapter to join us at Physcon 2019. Outside of SPS, Génesis is doing a clinical rotation in a Cancer Institute. She is very passionate about medical physics and is working hard to get as much experience as she can in this field. Thanks to her, our University, for the first time, is presenting an introductory course of Medical Physics.
