Elijah is currently a junior at the University of Oregon pursuing a BS in Physics and Mathematics. Elijah enjoys teaching, sharing science with others, and promoting science literacy. As such, he has participated as a Science Literacy Program Scholar where he was paired with a faculty mentor to co-teach Physics of Energy and Environment, a general education course for non-science majors. Elijah continues to develop his teaching and science communication skills by working as a Physics Peer-Learning Assistant for the University of Oregon’s introductory physics sequence and laboratory courses. Elijah has been an officer of the University of Oregon’s Society of Physics Students for two years, and in October, was elected co-president. As co-president, Elijah is striving to grow the club and develop it in such a way as to have a broader impact on his community. Club membership has doubled since last year and the chapter has implemented some exciting new programs. Our chapter has implemented an outreach program where volunteers travel to local elementary schools to perform physics demonstrations and several officers are currently forming a journal club for women in physics.
