Deval is a Master’s degree candidate in Physics at Stony Brook University. He has earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics with a minor in Astronomy from the University of Delaware. After completing his Master’s, Deval plan to pursue a Ph.D in Physics with the goal of conducting research in Quantum Cosmology.
As an undergraduate, Deval was very involved with SPS, serving as his chapter’s Public Relations Officer and President in consecutive terms and then as the Zone 3 Associate Zone Councilor (AZC) on the SPS National Council, and AZC Representative on the council's Executive Committee. In addition to his involvement with SPS, Deval served two years as a peer mentor for first Honors students, where he learned about scheduling students and fostered lasting relationships with his mentees. It was here that he learned to help others and bring people closer together.
Deval considers himself an unconventional academic. One of his goals is to collect a variety of skills that are usually thought to not be useful in academia and find ways to apply them. Such a thought process allowed him to broaden his experiences and begin to improve his skills in communications, policy, and administration. He is the current Communications Intern for SPS, doing whatever Tracy and Matt tell him needs to get done.
